Working for the future of Bedford & Kempston

Please note: This site covers the period that I was a Member of Parliament from May 2010 to June 2017.

After the General Election result, here is the letter Richard sent to the Beds on Sunday to express his thanks for the opportunity to serve as Member of Parliament for Bedford and Kempston:

Dear Editor,
We live in a wonderful community which it has been an honour to serve as Member of Parliament for the past seven years. Those years have required difficult decisions to restore national economic stability and to bring some order to public finances. I know some of these measures have had an impact on people across Bedford and Kempston and each decision weighed heavily with me.

Locally, we have seen a substantial fall in unemployment, a big increase in local businesses and start ups, the securing of key services at our local hospital, continuing falls in crime, increased parental choice of local schools, investment to complete the bypass, for a future flyover at Black Cat roundabout and a new rail link for Bedford to Cambridge and Oxford now well advanced in development.

The Bedford Business Fund, the Bedford Free School, the Bedford Community Business School have, I hope, been inspiring to those who seek a positive, brighter future for our community.

A Member of Parliament serves only at the consent of the people. I would have liked very much to complete my work, but I now wish my successor, Mohammed Yasin, every best wish in his endeavours on our behalf.

Sincerely,
Richard Fuller
